My son (22 tomorrow) and I spent a week in Kevin Gallagher's shop in Saylorsburg, PA taking a 5-day class with him. We built 2 guitars - both modified mini-jumbos.

As you will see in the photos, my son's guitar has a 3-piece back with maple/flame hog/maple and a florentine cutaway. My guitar has Amazon Rosewood with a sapwood centerline.

Enjoy!

Those look really nice. You both look very excited. I would be too if I got to hang out in Kevin's shop!

I'm incredibly jealous! Both of those guitars are stunning! I must admit I have actually lurked on your blog several times after Kevin posted a link... very cool stuff. You guys should both be proud of your builds as I am sure you certainly are. Now hopefully you are both completely hooked on building and will stick around here to share what you've learned.
Peace.

What an awesome Birthday gift! You must both be very proud of your new babies. Thanks for sharing your good fortune with us. It is always inspiring to see whatever comes out of Kevin's shop. These are no exception! Wish I could that too.

To be quite truthful, Kevin was quite suprised at how quickly we got things done. When you have 6 hands working on things instead of two, it really makes things go at hyper speed.

There were times when each of us was working on a different part of a guitar. I remember once when Kevin was cutting inlay - I was shaping my neck and Kyle was working on attaching the top to his guitar. This kind of activity went on a lot during the week. It sure made for fun days!

Wow...that's fantastic. Great blog too. You sure couldn't do better than to do a class with Kevin, and those guitars really show it.

Paul...I finally took the time to read all the way through your Blog in one sitting. Congratulations to both you and Kyle for taking on the project and building such fine guitars under the tutelege of one of the most accomplished and generous professional luthiers ever. We value Kevin's presence here on our forum and encourage you both to spend more time at the OLF on the building side of The Guitar! As you already know, it's almost impossible to stop at only one build so join our little obsession and feel free to seek advice and answers to questions as you travel your new-found path.

Thanks for sharing your amazing experience!
