I like the look of radial purfling. Zebra wood works well for this as it is striped nicely. What other types of wood have this stripey feature that would make nice radial purfling?

For a more subtle, but I think beautiful effect, try sapele.

Recently used verigated cocobolo foot this and really liked the look. Filippo's right, any stripped wood works as long as it contributes to the overall look.

I have used zebra, coco, and mahogany. The mahogany was very subtle, but nice. The zebra and coco are the most dramatic. I have seen others use bubinga as well with good results.

Has anybody tried Spruce? Red spruce may look kind of cool.

I have yet to do one but most certainly will in the future. I love the look of some of the one's I have seen here.

It would seem to me that a dense wood with a pretty closed end grain would work better? Do you have to do a lot of filling with porous woods. I think Zebrawood might be fairly porous. Not so much with Coco.

Unless you're specifically after radial, you might want to consider curly. Similar effect. Works nicely.

Sycamore also makes a nice purfling. Spotty look!
