I'd say mahogany.

Where's the uke from? I have some wood like that and it is "Solomon Island or Philipine" Mohagany, which is known as "Solomon Island or Philipine Rosewood which is really not a Rosewood, If I remember, it is Pterocarpus Indicus.

I have massive pieces of wood that looks like this that was sold a Sapele
heavy & dense! in the mahogany family-great for stable necks & B & Sides

I was going to say Meranti too. I've got seven 1''x16"x12' boards to make into shelving or resaw into guitar parts someday. It was identified by the USDA Forest Products Laboratory.

HelloThere123 how about a front shot of the instrument showing the brand. I guessed Nara knowing that lots of Asian instruments are made of it. If we know where this was made it may shed some light on what's abundant, inexpensive there. Thanks

My guess is Khaya Ivorensis ( African Mahogany).
