I usually just go to a local store and buy a half dozen sheets of bulk sandpaper. But they’ve switched to Klingspor, which is quite a bit more expensive, and I’m finding that it loads very fast and dulls very quickly.

What’s good in sandpaper land?

Sait - it's hard to find and we are having trouble finding it right now but we've used it for nearly 20 years now and the cloth like backing, consistent abrasives and overall very long lasting utility suits us just fine. The lavender colored stuff is the best. Avoid the beige colored stuff it's similar to #M Fre cut but not as good as the lavender stuff.

PSS: We buy it by the 50 or 100 sheet packs so we are looking for a supplier who can handle that volume.

I like it for finishes and wood. Seems to last a long time, uniform grit size, doesn't clog like most. I've only bought one box of 100 sheets (1000P) but as needed I will go back for more I am so impressed. It is just outstanding sandpaper IMO. So good, even at $100 a box I'm going to fill out my collection of grits in that brand.

For PSA rolls, 3M gold stickit shares many of the same characteristics. Best deals on ebay for that.

Nix my recommendation of Sait we just received a box of 100 sheets and they changed it..... %*&^^%$#$Y& and it's got a thin paper backing that sucks now.

With all the crazy going on in the world, I just want buying sandpaper to be as easy as it sounds…

Mirka Abranet is my go to , for most tasks.

Norton 3X. I stumbled on it while selling off the estate of a fellow luthier. I still use 3M wet or dry for sanding finishes, but Norton is my go to paper for sanding wood. I have 100, 150, and 220 grits.

For sanding wood, I pretty much just use rolls of 3M Stikit Gold PSA paper in 80, 120, 180, and 220 grit. I like cutting pieces to stick on the bottoms of sanding pads and blocks. While StewMac sells it in small rolls, larger quantity rolls are available elsewhere.

For sanding finish, I am still exploring, but I have some of the Eagle Abrasives Super Assilex stuff, and look forward to seeing how well it does.
