I have been away from building for some time now. My new wrap-around pickin' porch has taken far too long although is nearly complete. If we could get the concrete steps to pass inspection we would be ready to install our stair rail and be done with it.

Since we are waiting for our concrete contractor to get done fooling around so we can tear what he has done out and have another contractor come in and do the job correctly I have had some time to get back in the shop.

Here is an a model I started last year and finally go back to this week. It is nearly in the white (should be this weekend). It will be getting a two-color sunburst of which I will post some pics here and more in my shop blog.

Beautifull work , I love the look of that wood . As for the contractors , good luck , Been there done that and decided to move to an are where the inspections are not required .

where I live , no permit needed , I can do my own work , two basic basic requirements are looked for . 1. poops gotta drain down hill 2 the black wire will ring your chimes !

There is a lot to be said for less big brother.... they're just looking out for my best interests right? Afterall, they're from the gubment and there to help!

That's funny Big Jim. My Father was a plumber/pipefitter in Chicago area and I remember one time he told me the only thing you need to know about plumbing is? Crap don't run up hill, Fridays payday and the boss is an @$$hole.

Funny the things we remember when we were kids. I realize now that it's a common saying, but back then I thought he was so wise.

I finished that A model on 11-11-11.. oddly enough at 11 am central. I got in the hands of a couple pros that night and the next day at the festival here in town. It received great reviews and many comments on the 'new car' smell. Due to the timing of its completion, Adam Steffey recommended I name it 'Eleven'. Seems reasonable to me... so here is 'Eleven'.

This is an A model using f5 scale and fretboard. I moved the bridge back to the middle of the instrument (and it's carved to have it there not just moved). The top is sitka, back sides and neck hard maple, neck and tail blocks are old growth mahogany, fretboard and fretboard extender are African blackwood, ebony adjustable bridge and headstock veneers, tailpiece is Bill James engraved with 'Infinity Luthiers', celluloid nitrate bindings on body and fretboard, cow bone nut, MOP fret markers, headstock logo and fretboard service mark, Grover tuners with perloid buttons, 2 color sunburst (amber/tobacco) with hand-rubbed finish.

I rings like a bell and has unnaturally long sustain.

Here is a short (3 a.m.) clip of Mark Fowler of Truman's Ridge messing around. Listen to this, then think about how good he is fresh! I'll be creating a youtube video of the construction of this mando and background will be a lot more of Mark's excellent test drive.
