I'm using Bloodwood on the headplates, bindings and bridge on my next project. The bridge blank grain orientation is like \\\\ so I"m thinking of using the same plank to make my bridge plate. Should I be leaning towards a different species from the bridge? Clinton

Bloodwood is really heavy. Could be ok for a bridge, but I would be hesitant to use it as a bridge plate...
What's the density of your plank?

Have you thought about using it for the fretboard as well? Just to keep the same look going throughout the guitar?

I read somewhere that Bloodwood doesn't hold frets well. I have no experience with bloodwood other than binding with it. Clinton

Bloodwood's fine for frets. I haven't had any problem with it.

Try it. Might make it bigger and thinner than nomal to lighten it up. I have used blackwood.

I used some heavier pieces of wood for that brace. However, I don't use a bridgeplate that would probably be considered good or proper. But it works very, very well and look at it as a brace in the total build. I was skeptical about making a big plate, but when seen the sucess of the sound from the Boss and guitars I have used it on, my thinking changed.

I have no idea of what bloodwood does or doesn't do as I have only used it as a very thin purf line in binding.

I've noticed that bloodwood does split rather easily... could cause problems holding fret... maybe not as initial fretting but for refrets it could be a bigger problem.
