I finished the neck on my latest classical..offered up the tuners and they are wider than the headstock top to bottom.
Seems they are all pretty much the same dimensions now I look.. duh
Anyone know of any slimline tuners or think of a go round that doesnt involve scraping off the finish and doing a backstrip
TIA

These are the narrowest that I know of at 15.5mm.

Schaller made some classical tuners that could be used with or without the base plate - MK Mini's. They are closed back tuners so are a little modern looking.
You could also file down the plates on Stewmac's restoration tuners and make bushings to increase the post diameter. That might be more work than redoing the finish.
How much width do you have to work with?

You've got a few suggestions, but to me the easiest one is to add a backstrip and redo the
finish, IF it is an easily repaired finish like French polish or Nitro, where witness lines are
not a problem.

Thanks for the suggestions
I thnk the Sloanes are a bit out of budget for this guitar which is a
Falcate bracing, crossover type classical so I will go with the MK minis which will actually be fine on this particular guitar.
Ahhhhh no refinishing [:Y:]
