I was just wondering, how thick do you make your back and sides? I accidentally took a set of EIR sides down to .08" and the back to .09" in the sander... I'm pretty new to building. Do you think this will be a problem?

Nope, you are good. Assuming back is already joined.

That's what I would shoot for anyways. There are a number of factors that would make somebody want to go thicker or thinner for different reasons. Depends on what you want to do. But, if you don't really know, I would say those numbers are a fine place to start.

Should be fine, but you could beef up the back braces a bit if you want

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

As noted, you are good. Here's a tip if your new to thickness sanding: Run your wood through twice without changing the sander height. Each pass at the same setting will take off a tiny amount, making it easier to sneak up on your target thickness. It will also help even out small variations across the piece of wood. Good luck!
