Well building a new shop for me has been difficult since I don't have the skill set of Joe the plumber but I am learning and enjoying most of it very much.

Joe White and JJ were over a couple of days ago and helped me mount my new air cleaner - no jokes please (Billy....)

I thought that I would show some pics of the progress:

This is the utility room and will also have my new table saw in it when all the other junk is cleared out. For now I am using it to store the zoot stash and have a dehumidifier and humidifier running, as needed which is not much at all, in this room. When the shop is completed the "saw" room will not be RH controlled.



This will be my office area so I have easy and fast access to checking in on the OLF and being generally annoying at will.... You are seeing the first coat of mud that I applied today. It sure goes slow using a credit card as a squeegee....



This will be the zoot storage area and it is in the climate controlled zone of the shop. It will be great to be able to smell the BRW all over my shop.



Here is the main shop and the newly installed Jet air cleaner. JJ and I held it in place while Joe attached it to the ceiling. Many thanks guys and your deodorants worked very well.....



The walls in the main shop are mudded, sanded *$&%^$^% and ready for primer:

Looking very cool now Hesh . Ample room ,dust making machinery isolated from your main workroom , Jet air cleaner and dehumidifier/humidifier. Man ,,,, you can't go wrong.

I feel your pain with sanding the mud .Been there, done that ! It always amazes me how little sanding the professionals have to do after mudding up .,,,,,,,Annoying actually

I'm guessing you'll be painting the walls white for light reflection ?

Looks GREAT Hesh baby.

I love your new place. Years ago when I first started hanging drywall I nailed it up vertical like you have in some areas. An old crusty drywall hanger come over to inspect my work and advised that I always hang drywall horizontal. That way when you look down the length of the wall when it is finished and painted you won't see the vertical mud line running from the floor to the ceiling. It made since to me anyway.

Sure wish I was closer to lend you guys a hand. Sounds like you guys had a nice time.

Chuck I read about horizontal panels and wanted to do that but I have no help and it's a bit easier for one guy to not have to lift, position, and screw in place..... that top panel. But I agree with ya and wished I could have positioned the panels horizontally.

Heshie, I envy you in a way.
I'd love to be able to design a shop from the ground up.
Or like you, from the ground down.
It's lookin' great!

Are you going to have a sound-proof demo room?

I hear you JJ about Monica.Hesh you need to behave yourself.The shops lookin`good.And I`ve hung tons of drywall exactly the way you did.The best way when your on your own,although it`s still tons of work.Kudos to ya.

dust footprint, and you've even kept the rug clean. I don't see how you do it... What table

So, Hesh, I remember a discussion at the meeting last month about your plans for the new shop. Nice progress! Have you decided on the ceiling, yet? Is a drop ceiling looking like the ticket, or have you decided on some other option? BTW Just curious if you've lost any cigars to that vac?

Hesh, its a bit late now but , a tip on taping and spackling , those with little experience usualy lay it on thick with the attitude " i can always sand it off"which is ( i am sure you are realizing ) much easier said than done. those with a bit more experience know the way to go is to take as much mud off, as you can , while its wet because they can always add more mudd later ( another coat) , as needed... the shop is looking good, I am jealous ! LOL good luck Jody

Hi Steve - no plans for any kind of recording set-up but I do have plans for some proper photographic lights and a back drop. On a related note I recently moved back to an area near where I went to high school. I have been in touch with some of my old pals that I have not seen in 35 years......

A number of these guys play out at clubs and have asked me to drop by and listen to them AND to bring my guitars. So I have been doing that every weekend now and having an amazing time too. I get the biggest kick out of watching and listening to someone play one of my stinkin Heshtones. As I am sure you all know guitars do sound very differently when you are not the player so this is good for me to gain some experience from the other side of the room. Also I am sure that some of these guys, my friends, would be more than happy to record too so this is probably likely in the future.

Jody great tip my friend and you are right-on in what you suspected....... The first room, the main shop, has over 4 gallons of mud on the walls........ But I am getting better and now mindful that what goes on has to come off too - great tip!

Darin buddy yep a drop ceiling in the office/storage area is the ticket. Joe White also suggested that I lay some of the extra R-13 that I have above the drop ceiling.

Gene all I can tell you about the table saw is that it is a one year old $1,000 Crapsman that the electrician that I hired to do the connections to the fuse box sold me. He is getting a divorce and mentioned that he would sell me his new saw very cheap. He quoted me $200! I replied that I can't carry anything that heavy into my basement and he agreed to deliver it, set it up, show me how to use it and be safe doing so - so such a deal.... I know it's probably not a great saw but it will be my first table saw and I can learn with it which is probably not a bad way to start.

And it was cheap just like me........

Hang in there Ben - I can relate and drywalling is NOT fun.....

Hesh , also about sanding the drywall... use a rough sponge damped with warm water , kept in a bucket nearby to repeatedly rinse out the sponge. it may be a little more difficult to get the " heavy" areas of mud you have there smooth , but you will have no dust ( yeah thats zero) in the air ! I am sure you dont want a case of white lung to go along with your new shop! If you read the directions on the bucket there is a good chance a sponge is now the recommended technique, due to litigation from prolonged breathing of sanding dust ! Jody
