Well Douglas,
It's a design I had in my head. The back and sides are Quilted Birdseye maple, the top is striped african mahogany, bindings are curly maple/black walnut, neck is curly maple/black walnut with Striped mahogany veneers. The cover is quilted BE as well. Fretboard is 25" scale malagasy rosewood 14"rad. Nitro finish.
9-1/2" biscuit cone. The body is loosely based on a 000 but smaller, yet larger than the beard reso plans.

My first attempt at a reso was a disaster because I tried to take a square neck and make it a round neck. So that was the beginning of this one. I wanted the tune o matic so I could get good intonation. It also allows for extra height when adjusted for lap slide when using an extension nut.

Mike it has a wonderful tone and the projection is unreal. The cone is like having a small amplifier in it. I was amazed as I kept opening up the ports on the cover the intensity it started to produce. Unlike other resos. I'm not sure if the mass of the TOM is helping in that?

I'm very pleased with it, and already have a solid offer for it. I'm not sure I'll take it as I had planned this for an auction for underpriviledged children. I may take the $ though and donate that. :)

Thanks for the thumbs up!

Mike

Beautiful instrument Mike! Can you give me some details on how the TOM mounts to the biscuit? And is the coverplate carved from a thick piece of wood, like an archtop is?

Thanks,
Joe

First thank you Joe,
The biscuit is maple 5/16" thick x 2-1/2" wide x 3-3/4"long, I added another piece of maple 3-1/2" long x 3/4" wide and 5/8" thick to the biscuit. This is offset approx 1/8" from center to the rear with an additional offset 1/16 on the treble side and 1/8 on the bass side. The TOM studs are then screwed in the appropriate locations. This allows for the normal offset that TOMS require on most electric guitars for proper intonation. (note that I used an ABR type TOM not the newer versions with the press in inserts.)The center of the cone was set at 25- 1/32 " from the nut face. The neck angle was set at 3 deg. this required me to set the cone 1" depth for the shelf. This allowed me to use 7/8" thick piece of maple to make the cover. Yes it is carved inside as well. Only at the flat is the thickness around 3/16" from the break over drop it then goes to 1/4". I have about 1/8" clearance between the biscuit and the cover.

I hope that answers your question?

Mike

Thank you for the compliment and the blessing. Now I must decide to take a gauranteed amount of donation now or take a chance on more at auction? So what do y'all think? I have a solid offer over 2k that will be donated or see what happens at auction?

Your cooperative opinions will help.

Thanks
Mike

Yes Mike you did a good job explaining the mechanics of how you set up the biscuit with the TOM. That's pretty slick, being able to adjust the intonation, never seen that before on a resonator, sounds like a good idea!

One heck of a nice guitar,
Thanks for sharing all,
Joe
