Hi All,
Recently i was cutting some old wood known locally as 'Rengas' aka Borneo rosewood.
and came up with this idea of using it for inlay.

Winter - naked branches
Summer - blacken and burned branches
Spring - wait till I digged some spalted roots with pink coloration

Maybe I misunderstood the details, but would it not make more sense to shape each leaf afterwards? (variability, flexibilty, etc)

Hi Mike, those white lining are maple veneer, I wrapped ( super glued )the whole 'log' before cutting into slices.

BOY would I love to see this thread! It must be the phase of the moon; every few weeks the forum dumps me at odd times. I've had to sign back in after every mouse click this session, and it won't show me the pictures.

The reason I'm interested, of course, is that I made some autumn leaves myself a few years back. MIne were tiny; 3.5mm square, and each has 20 pieces of wood in it. I made them with plane jigs, and it tok about 90 hours all told to make them. You seem to have gotten there with less effort, and I'd love to see how they turned out. I used bloodwood, purpleheart, boxwood, and some stuff I salvaged locally that I think is from 'burning bush'. Under the circumstances I'm not even going to try to post a picture.
