So what wood working related magazine do you suscribe to? With my 2 yr old boy not wanting to sit still for more than 10 seconds, I often run out of time when I visit local book store. Do you have a favorite?

I like Wood Magazine.

My nieces and nephews often sell magazine subscriptions for school fundraisers, so I find that the perfect opportunity to renew my subscription.

I subscribe to a number of wood working magazines, but probably like Wood best.

On a similar note, what would OLF members recommend for magazines that specialize in guitar construction (actual build, jig construction, etc)?

I used to subscribe to half a dozen or so, but now the only one I still receive, and will renew, is WoodSmith.

Same here... Woodsmith is a great resource that I have referred back to. I even went through the trouble to collect all the back issues.

Fine Woodworking is another great magazine but I have recently let my subscription lapse. I just don’t read them anymore. I found my self thumbing through them when they first arrive and then they get put on a shelf. Fine Woodworking’s ads are all woodworking related and it gives you exposure to tools and machine that we wouldn’t get otherwise. Even the internet can’t replace that kind of exposure.

With allot of other wood related magazines, I have found they contain far less content and the ad’s are for crap I have no interest in. I received a complimentary issue Wood magazine once. After shaking out all of the loose paper and ripping out the sheet of hard paper that prevents you from flipping through the magazine without stopping, I read the main article and was interest up to the point where I had to flip to page 113 and scour the page to find the last two paragraphs. Into the trash it went… I never did finish reading that article.

I've had subscriptions to almost all of them at one time or another, but the only one I have now
and have always keep getting is Fine Woodworking. I also like the free subscription I've had from
Woodcraft, but I won't pay for it. Fine Woodworking covers the best range of novice through
expert topics that I've found.

Fine Woodworking continues to be one of the best. I don't subscribe to any now, after you've read the magazines over the years they start to repeat too much. Most are at the libraries, so its easy to go grab a bunch every now and then.

"Wood" really is aimed at a different level than I am interested.

The only magazine I still renew my subscription for is ShopNotes, I let all the rest of them lapse. I cancelled my Wood subscription over a year ago - and I still kept getting "this is your final issue" issues for close to a year. Don't know if they changed or I did, but we got where we didn't mesh anymore. Don't miss 'em.

Same here. I still have stacks of them and don't look at them anymore. Anything I have an interest in, I can usually find on the internet. I guess I've traded all my magazine subscriptions for the computer in my shop.
