Swap-a-Palooza Summer 2009

Ok folks, we know everyone is itching for a swap meet and your wish is our command. So, on June 17th - July 1st we will be having one of our blow out swap meet events. (This gives you just enough time to rummage and find the stuff you want to get rid of, as well as save your pennies to buy some great stuff.)

If you are new to a swap meet event we start a new discussion area of the OLF dedicated to swap meet business only (no guitar building discussions in this area). Anyone can come in, look, and buy, but if you want to sell you need to register ahead of time and there is a nominal fee. If you are a seller you will get the opportunity to open a single thread within this discussion, post your pictures, prices, etc.

We ask (actually we insist, but we want to appear nice about it) that all swap meet business happens in the threads and not in PMs or emails. We don't want links out to yor web sites, or shopping carts of stuff you have for sale, and we want all buyers to announce their interests in the threads, not privately. We have done a few of these and we have found when everything is out in the open it makes for a more fun and successful swap meet.

As usual there will be a small cost involved in selling your stuff at the swap meet. Here is the breakdown of prices. Please pay pal us your entry fee at Lance@luthiersforum.com and we will set up you up as a seller and you can start posting your wares. We should have the thread set up by the first of next week.

Individual Seller who is an OLF Classifieds Subscriber $5
Individual Seller who is NOT an OLF Classifies subscriber $20
Commercial Seller who is NOT an OLF Advertiser $250
Commercial Seller who is an OLF Advertiser (sponsor level) $50
Commercial Seller who IS an OLF Advertiser (Promoter & higher) $FREE

We have tried to keep these fees low, but we also have a lot of expansion plans for the OLF and we are looking to raise funds to help offset these costs. So hopefully this works out for everyone.

We are very excited about this. These are always fun and are a great community event. Feel free to invite other guitar making friends to check it out.

I don't mean to throw cold water on this, but the date could be a problem. Those dates overlap the ASIA Symposium, so lots of folks, including tonewood dealers will be out of pocket and pretty busy during that time, not to mention some of the rest of us. I'm just sayin!

Hi Lance and Brock,

Where do we stand on the ability (for sellers) to edit posts in the Swap threads? I'd like to know, so I can prepare all of the individual "SOLD" and "AVAILABLE" images for each item (Kim's excellent suggestion!), if I have to. (Of course, buyers may have to refresh their browsers to see the latest version of a photo of the same name.)

In the past, sellers were allowed to edit our posts. The editing worked out great, so we could mark items as sold, and in some cases some sellers marked items as sold in text, then deleted the photo of the sold item, which made Swap Meet pages refresh more quickly.

In the past, we were told to keep all our stuff for sale within one thread. This time, I see that at least one seller has set up more than one thread in the Swap Meet sub-forum, and I'm thinking that (if we cannot edit) that might be a good way to break up the offerings into smaller posts that would load faster for the folks that are shopping (especially compared to one big long thread - for those of us offering a variety of items.)

So, for the Swap-a-Palooza Summer 2009:
1.) can we edit?
2.) can we set up several threads?

Dennis

Don't mean to be a pest, but I'm bumping this because the Swap starts in less than a week, and I would like to know how to format the posts.

Thanks,

Dennis

Yeah well either turn on the edit feature forum wide, or just for the sellers. Either way, you will be able to edit.

When can buyers start viewing stuff for sale? I`ve been out of town for awhile..so I don`t know all the details, like what time of day it starts and how you can view stuff pre-sale.,Or if that`s even allowed.

James, not to worry, I don't think much has been posted yet. I guess most of us sellers will be burning the midnight oil to get stuff posted tonight, for the opening bell tomorrow. :D
