i have the neck for my first build all ready for finish. i have not shaped or glued the heel cap on yet, so i guess its not completely ready for finish, but pretty close. at what point do you glue the heel cap on? do you get the neck set before you put finish on the neck or do you go ahead and finish it and set it later? thanks in advance.

I set the neck, than I bolt the neck on with a piece of 220 grit sandpaper along the checks, leaving it solid at the heal cap. I then sand the heal cap to the correct set angle. Now I take the sandpaper way and put wax paper there. I glue on the heal cap while the neck is bolted onto the body. This also helps me get a nice solid joint at the body (trying for no gaps).

Once the glue is cured, I take the neck off, do the final shaping, sanding of the heal cap and I'm totally ready to finish the neck.

Just to be different ... I glue the heel cap on before the neck is totally set .. after the angle has been cut on the TS, after I glue on the FB .. thus it gets sanded tight to the body as I floss with sandpaper.

Gee, thanks Heath. Now we'll never be able to live with 'Coach' Tony :D . Hope he doesn't get grumpy.

Tony, any plans to come out to BC again this year?
