Hello,
I've been browsing this site for a few months now as I have been interested in building guitars since I was a kid, but have never attempted it. Soon that will change, and many thanks to those who have taken time to answer some of my many questions. I'm sure to have plenty more ahead. I've gotten lots of advice here on tools and books and such and when I return to the states, I'll be ready to start building after I get re-settled and I finish reading a few more books.

Anyways, I have been admiring many of your works. If I was interested in buying a guitar from a builder here on the OLF, where would I do so? It's not actually for me, it's for my brother. He can't afford Ervin Somagyi prices, but he is looking for a nice dread, full scale length, doesn't need crazy inlay if any at all, EIR, Sapele or something similar, nothing too crazy just an excellent sounding, nice looking guitar priced within reason. Maybe a relatively new builder interested in selling a guitar? I hope this is not out of line. Feel free to message me or post a link if you have something that you think fits the bill. Hopefully I can find him one to hold him over until I can build him a super fancy zoot-tastic guitar sometime in the distant future.

thanks,
Joey

If you know who you want to buy from just ask. This was the first year I had a guitar at the NAMM show . There is plenty of talent here . Let the builders know what you want and start there .

Well that's the thing, I don't really know who I want to buy from, because I don't know each OLF builders' price range. I generally know the price ranges of materials and all that stuff, but the skill and experience of the luthier has quite a bit to do with the prices no? Higher demand creates higher prices.

Honestly I haven't seen any guitars here that myself or my bro would not be happy to own. Of course this is based on appearance alone, but I would think that equal attention would be paid to solid a set up etc.

Joey-
You should really state a (narrow) price range so that people can point you in the right direction.
Many folks who sell guitars (including amateurs) have websites, and they usually have prices listed.

I'm a hobbyist builder and I don't sell guitars, so I really don't have much idea of prices.
I would advise checking out the guitar in person if you are buying from a builder without a known 'track record'- or negotiate a satisfactory 'return' agreement. Some guitars look great in pictures but can have 'issues' with sound and playability- I've made some of those!

Cheers
John

I'm a newer builder here, and I'm building an extra guitar at the moment that will be completed in about 3 weeks. I was building this one just to try a few new things and gain some added experience. Overall, it is a fairly simple guitar with a couple of slight cosmetic flaws, but a very nice instrument. It's based on a smaller bodied Gibson, so it may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I'd be willing to let it go for a very reasonable price. Let me know if you'd be interested in hearing more about it or seeing some pictures. I hope you'll enjoy beginning you're own build soon!
