So I made my first stock lumber purchase last weekend.
A nice big hunk of walnut
Image
I thought it was a pretty good find. It's just the right dimensions for back and sides. It's 11 1/2" wide. 34 " long up to that big notch and 2 inches thick.
Image
it's well quartered, fairly straight grained throughout and is very colourfull with pinks, purples, reds, greens showing nice with a wipe of Alcohol.

I know everyone out there is adding to their wood stashes constantly So let's see what you have picked up lately. Maybe something you dads out there bought yourselves for fathers day?

Holy cow, Filippo, that Ziricote is glorious.
So perfectly quartered...never seen a piece with that much fleck over the entire width.

Again... wow7-eyes

Steve

My newest zoot is in my avatar. Well it's really in my basement in New York. But anyways, Flippo, where did you find that ziricote? Stunning stuff. Makes my sets look completely average.

Yesterday, I sawed some sets from a couple of boards (from one tree) of African Olivewood that I recently found. I got pretty good yield and the bandsaw (with Laguna Resaw blade) was working well, so it was a fun day.
It looks (and sounds) like it will be good stuff to work with.
Cheers
John

Three pieces that I really like. The first is Razor Mottled Mango, the second is Mango with a little bit of everything going on (and structurally very sound) and the third is Ceylon Satinwood. The Satinwood is not that figured, but it look great!

Dennis, The two pieces of Mango came from the same board. I have had it around for years. Just dug it out a couple of weeks ago and realized how great it was. I believe it came from a guy in Rochester, NY. I used to live there a purchased some wood from a gentleman who was retiring from his woodworking business. Now that was probably 25 years ago. I do not have anymore.

Sorry
Ken
