So I scored a couple really good finds lately..... Wish I could have gotten more, but they were one of a kind sets. So it goes. Saving these for Healdsburg 2011.

Amazing fully QS Brazilian set.
Curly Pink ivory set!! Talk about rare!

What good stuff have you all gotten lately!? My wife finds it funny I get all excited over wood sets. I was, literally, giddy over the Brazilian set. Better than some vices I suspect!

However now I'm broke again. These two sets combined cost more than my truck.....

Forgot this one I also got. Supposedly reclaimed from a church beam built in the 1700's. Don't know if that is true, but it's dang nice.

Recently? The 18 2" electric guitar/archtop back billets + 3 acoustic B/S sides + 5 neck blanks from Jason V (CV Tonewoods). All lovely bigleaf maple. Sadly I only got to keep 12 of the billets.

I haven't purchased any sets for a good while now, mostly because a) I have nowhere to really put them, b) I build, on average, one guitar per year, and even if I double that it'll still take more than 3 decades to use what I have and c) my girlfriend might just kill me if I did. It was touch and go there with the maple for a while.

Sometimes I get a little giddy just re-sorting various stacks of stuff, including some really nice quilt sapele and madrose sets. I also rediscovered a whole bunch of spanish cedar boards big enough for 1 piece electric bodies. Not quartered, sadly, but there's enough there for 15 bodies or so.

Ohh Spanish cedar rocks for bodies. Nice!

Hey... At least you've GOT a truck!

Actually have two. A little S-10, and a 1967 C-20... however the C-20 is up for sale as I just don't drive it... It's hard getting 7 miles to the gallon!

From my recent trip to the Oregon coast, a visit to sponsor Pacific Coast woods in Brookings OR, I scored a Port Orford stash for close to 2 guitars, enough for 2 carved backs, 2 AAA tops, 1 set of sides, a neck blank, and a stick of maple I got 3 FB's from. Also pictured is a block of figured POC that I got locally, this will be the headstock and rosette of my all POC guitar that is next. This not only cost much less then a truck, but less then the hotel room for the night in Brookings.

I recently got 2 HUGE chunks of Honduras Mahogany from a local lumber company. They'll keep me in necks for a couple years. I don't have any pictures yet......but here's a picture of my Buick. Nice truck John

Not gotten lately, but lately become air dried enough to cut further into. Sawn from the log about 4 years ago.



Slabs are 13/4, and a few at 8/4. I'm gearing up my resaw capabilities.

BTW John, tell you wife that your giddiness is legitimate! You've got a world class unobtanium stash going on there.

Unfortunately I'm in the liquidating phase. A good chunk of my home gym's going to a local firehouse today. But . . . what DOES makes me giddy is to see John posting!

Excellent work Sanaka! Putting those poor storm-downed trees to use. Planning to share them, or can you make it through that much wood by yourself?

Anyway, I've been feeding my WAS monster pretty well lately. Just did a photo shoot of all my back/side/top sets, here are some good ones:

Cool EIR fingerboards, plus 1 of 10 African blackwood ones. I love the lavender one, I'm saving it for something special. Its color doesn't show up very well in my terrible lighting though.

Spalted mango and Port Orford Cedar for a jumbo, with African blackwood bridge and the wavy EIR fingerboard, and turquoise water inlay theme:

Cloudy cocobolo and redwood for a dread, with African blackwood bridge and the orange/red EIR fingerboard, green abalone zipflex purfling, and ebony binding:

......And that is how I spent my July-August paychecks.

No photos of it, but I recently acquired some nicely figured quarter sawn White Oak. There is enough for about 8 b/s sets, if I remember correctly and cut it well. No definite project for it yet, but a friend had a big plank of it and sold it to me at a good price, so I squirreled it away while I had the chance.

I scored this nice set of Zebrawood from RC Tonewoods yesterday. Pretty psyched about that!

I've been resawing some nice planks that I got from a woodworking buddy. I sawed two b/s sets out of a piece of really nice quartersawn figured mahogany, and six fretboard and four bridge blanks out of a piece of gorgeous quartersawn zirocote (click on the pics to see 'em big):





I would have gotten more ziricote fretboards and bridges but there was a great big split in the plank that I didn't see until I cut it.....so I have a bunch of nice pen blanks too!
