Well yeah, if you don't it just makes it easier for the cops to find you and lock you up for life.

Just ask Dexter.

If you want to clean your shop, have a flood, mine is the cleanest and most organized it has ever been after the 8" of water and sewage on the floor. I am sure it will revert back to where it was before, but I will try to be a little more diligent with the shop vac and broom. My trouble is I get so into building I hate to stop and clean up, I wish I could be a Hesh or Filippo but I guess I don't have it in me.

I refuse to clean my shop, as it would give my wife more opportunity to try and store junk in there. If she can't get in the door, she can't make a deposit. duh

The mood lighting is a tad bit creepy.

Its all about the work.

If the work isn't getting done, and done well, I don't give a hoot about how tidy and organized the shop is. I can't tell you how many times I read through the woodworking magazines special workshop issues, see might impressive workshops, and then I look at the photos of their woodworking. I heave a big sigh and slump in my chair. All that shop space, all those tools, for that!?

My shop isn't sterile clean, equipped with furniture grade cabinetry, or extensive tooling, but it is organized and has achieved an operational efficiency. LOTS of work gets done, and done well. Bottom line.

How many of you have a workshop like this ?

J

My shop looks almost exactly like that, but is now a few years older and a lot more crowded. By the way, the mess was behind my camera ;).

None of my stands were built from Woodsmith plans. I take full responsibility for their ugliness :).

Mine is pretty clean, as well, but his Taig micro-lathe is more tricked-out.

Just re-joined OLF yesterday, btw. Hadn't logged on since "the change", heh. Did I miss anything?

That is beautiful David. Love the anvil!

Have you seen this tricked-out Taig? http://lathes.jrbentley.com/taig.html

charge to 300!... clear!... choomp!...
charge to 350!... clear!... choomp!... beep... beep... beep...

That was close, Ray...

My God, that's Taig-porn cubed. Awesome. Stunning. I do like my microscope better, though, as it's more versatile (fully articulated boom) and has dual cold-halogen gooseneck fiberoptic illuminators.

Glad you liked the anvil. That's my 200lb Trenton in its "before" condition. The top plate and upper horn are now mirror polished but the rest still has that lovely wrought patina. These days the only hot forging it sees are small tools and occasional decorative hardware. Mostly it's my go-to for pounding cold gold and silver billets on their way to the rolling mill or some decorative coppersmithing. It now resides in the dedicated metalsmithing and jewelry atelier in my new shop which has five separate work venues. The Taig's in the micro-machining room. I'll try to post pictures someday.

No, Filippo... you can't have the anvil, sorry... but pics, yeah:

Obviously, I love thick walnut with truss rod construction. There are no M&Ts, and only lap joints on the transverse bottom bearer/stretcher. Walnut takes shock nicely so I use it on most of my shop furniture, such as this little repousse bench, which, unlike the anvil stand, has exposed inlet rods. The twin threaded captive rods in the center stretcher of the anvil stand are 3/4" diameter. I just love building shop furniture.

Maybe so, Filippo... but it sure doesn't look cheap. Crisp details and workmanship.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who noticed and admired that anvil on the stand! If I had need of one, that's what I'd want.

I'm a lurker here but I thought I'd share a few pics of my "ultra clean section" of the Coverall Struction I share with my father after a weekend of playing in it.
