This is a great looking guitar! Waddy.

Congratz on successfully re-topping the #5.
The new tops looks really good under FP.
I like the rosette too.

Personanly I prefer if the heel cap is at the same level as the back; I think adding 1 or 2 more layers on the heel cap will bring it to be same level as the back.
But the heel cap sure matches the back very well though.

Another one finished, it seems like only yesterday........

I like the skunk stripe, I see more and more classicals with this, and I think you're sycamore purfling is inspired! The back is very Kevin Aram.

If it were mine, I must admit I'd take the strings off and even up the ramps, but I've decided to nit pick as you're getting too good at this now.

Beautiful Waddy!
I'm not criticizing just suggesting something I think would improve the esthetics's.
I like the stripe but I think it would have looked better if it carried it through to the heel cap. I stack heel my laminated necks so that the stripe continues. It flows better to the eye in my opinion.

Thanks, everyone!

Colin: Picking nits is a good thing, when a guy is still learning. It's funny, you see lots of stuff in pictures you don't see when finishing. I have found a dozen places to fix, that included. I think they should also be deeper into the slot. I really need to do a better job of pre-finishing examination.

Bert, I think that is more of a steel string thing. On a classical, the dark stripes would go all the way around to mid heel. It would look weird, I think. Historically classical guitars with a stripe, still have a heel made separately, without the stripe. Not saying it's never been done, but it's not customary. Some folks, ask Alex, look askance at any stripes at all.

Sen, I don't know about the heel cap. I've seen it both ways, and I change based on what I have available that I want to use. This just came out this way. It wasn't a plan. If I'd had a thicker piece of Coco that would match up with the back, I'd have used it. I suppose I could have used two layers of Coco, but then there'd be a seam, and the grain wouldn't match. Choices! gaah

Nice guitar Waddy, I'm doing my #5 shortly, when I figure out what I want to make. I was wondering if you had any problems with the cocobolo wood; as far as allergic reacations or what not,, I love the wood. Just wondering how it was to work it. Thanks, Jason

Waddy, the fact that you re-topped the guitar is amazing to me.
But oh, what a looker that new top is!
I've a question that's a variation of Jason's re. the Cocobolo.
Just wondering what you thought of the Coco as a bridge, weight-wise?

Steve

Thanks to both of you for the compliments.

I had no reaction to the Cocobolo. But, that's just me. Can't say what it will do to you. Also, I may become sensitized at a later date. I know it happened that way with CA glue. I used to use it to glue on nails, and eventually, I became sensitized. I can't let it get on my skin now, without having an itching experience! gaah As to how it works, it's hard, but works easily, bends easily, and finishes nicely. Pores are many, but reasonable. I did have one crack, along the grain line on the back, but it was fixed easily.

Steve, I love using Coco as a bridge. Is it too heavy, yes, by all of the standards I have read and from what everyone says. My bridges tend to weigh in in the upper range of what most intelligent people say they should weigh, in the 25 - 28 g range. That said, I have not had any problems with it being a drain on the output of my guitars, that I can tell. They are loud, they are even, and they do not lack for bass or treble. The bridge on my first was BRW, and fell in the 22 - 23 g range and the bridge on #3 was Mad Rose, and weighed in the 24 g range, and neither of those guitars was any more responsive or any louder than the other 3 with Coco bridges. So far all of my Coco bridges have come from one 2x2x15" turning block that I bought from Rockler on sale for $12.00. I got 12 bridge blanks out of it. The difference in my guitars has been very subtle at best, though they do, for some reason, seem to be getting louder.

Filippo, I don't have a problem with laminated classical necks ( I am adding a visible stripe too when the cedar is light) just that I don't like how it looks in a V joint. I would have had it covered by the backplate. Matter of personal preference not some absolute tradition.
