I'm always impressed by those MIMF challenge entries, but that's really cool, Arnt.

Whaddaya mean? idunno

laughing6-hehe

No, actually they were a bit more... I misunderstood the rules early on, so it was clear that I would not be able to make an instrument for <$100, even though I had some "free" wood and recyclaimed hardware etc that I had planned to use. So as soon as I found that out, I disqualified myself, and upgraded some of the parts...actually all of them, except the b/S and neck woods, which are general lumberyard quality stuff. I still wanted to finsish the instrument in time though, in the spirit og the game, so to speak

I finished the rosette I showed earlier in the thread and finished bracing the top for my Cocobolo wedge. I will start the bracing on the OM tomorrow and do my favorite task, voicing the just completed top

I had to show the cool shavings, BRW with BWB purfling on each side of it

Zootman Uncle Bob (RC Tonewoods) showed that a while back and PaulK and I got sets from it at John Hall's gathering this summer. See Bob's post in this thread http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=27953

I asked 1st but almost let Paul have this set but didn't, his is real pretty also but not quite this wild, I might have to raid his zoot pile some day and get the sister set, maybe he will get allergic to Coco before he uses it.

Is it ebony or carbon fiber in the laminate braces?

Yeah...John supplied six of those brazilian blanks and by sheer luck I arranged them such that they were cut from worst to best. They kept getting prettier as I cut them.

David, I’m from that region and it’s almost impossible to find bird maple on the market and you have it in NY. What a bad luck gaah

Neither Francis, they are Cocobolo. It's some of the last scrap Coco I have (thank God!). I may go to ebony, or try to find some other dense, singing wood to use that isn't toxic to me.

While I did do some finish work on my latest - a Monkeypod/Lutz.

But I spent most of the weekend working on a table. My first real attempt at furniture building.

That's a handsome one Waddy, will you be showing it in Columbus Ga. next year?

Thanks, David! I think it's already sold. Unless something goes terribly awry! :D I'll probably do another like it, though, for Columbus. I'm really liking the look of the Sycamore as a wide purfling. Interesting character to the wood.

Sorry for the delayed reply! My granddaughter's been staying with us. Priorities, you know!
