It took a while and there were some delays, a broken foot, a leaky roof in my shop, and a hurricane, but the big brother to the koa OM that I finished back in May is finally done! The two guitars were made with sequential cuts of Koa from the same log, which you will see at the end.
Here are the specifics:
Koa top, back and sides
Koa heel cap
Bloodwood bindings, head plate and tail wedge
Sperzel locking tuners in gold
Abalone rosette
black white black purfling all over the place
Curly maple neck with bloodwood stripe by KMG Guitars.

This guitar is a commission for a guy whose last name starts with the letter M. I tried to inlay this "M" but I broke one of them after two horrendous attempts, and I only had two, so I sent it to VirgilGuitar. He did an excellent job with a one day turnaround. So special thanks to Virgil for helping me out. Here is the "M" in the bloodwood head plate veneer:

And, here are the twins "together" for the first time!

Thanks to VirgilGuitar for doing the inlay on the headstock for me! And thanks for looking everyone!

Tony

WOW!! Stunning guitar, Tony. I love the look of the bloodwood binding on the FB, and the clean look of the FB without the fret dots. Too bad the siblings are going to be separated! What does the dread sound like?

Where's my shades!!
Superb woods and work.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Jeez Ernie! You were clearly looking at this thread, you took the time to post something, but you cant even say, "Hey man, nice guitar."
or something like that? Ouch. gaah

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I appreciate it and you are all very kind! Except for Ernie. He must have missed the pics of the guitar or something. laughing6-hehe

By request. And without the locks, they look like regular strap buttons.

What an ugly guitar. Seriously Tony, you should be embarrassed! I don't think you should use that Koa anymore, either. If you have any more of those sequential cuts, I think you should ship them to me, so that I can haul them down to the dump for yah.

Don't be silly. Why wouldn't you want to play it safe with a guitar that amazing?

Now, as to why he didn't take them off for the photos, well, that's another story for another day. :p
