Welcome back, Bob!
I just took a quick peek at your site and it seems that things have changed a bit over the past few months.
Awhile back, I was looking for something, and just what it was I can`t seem to remember, but I do recall a stipulation that there really wasn`t much choice on the figure in the pieces I was looking for at that time and place. Or maybe it was said that there were to be no special orders.
That was the situation I had at hand then, and after considering the chances of recieving a part/piece that would/wouldn`t match, I`m sorry to say, it blew the deal and I went elsewhere.
Please accept my sincere apologies.
I know and respect that the issue of customer service costs time and money, but is there a way to see an image of the wood one intends to buy and be sure that the wood in the picture is the one that the customer will recieve?
Coe

Bob, you and I already had this discussion but I'll jump in and add to the chorus here on domestic woods. And, I know where you can get some persimmon (beyond the source that we already discussed). Unfortunately, it's not in large quantity. Persimmon seems to happen a tree at a time.

Bob,
One thing I would add to my earlier comment is that I think bundling the bridge, fingerboard, and headplate into a matching set of the same wood might be enticing to customers. That's the way I like to build my guitars and I see a lot of people doing the same. Obviously this would be especially attractive for those searching for unusual or alternative domestic woods.

Another request for domestic (ie north america) fingerboards and bridges.

Heh ... wires crossed, Bob. I was referring to an earlier suggestion that RC Tonewoods might carry other luthiery products. I was just saying you could experiment with a few non-wood products.

Filippo

Ahhh gotcha now. Thanks for your input my friend.

No "normal" supplier carries finishing products except for Nitrocellouse lacquer, shellac and waterborne stuff. Oil based Varnish, Polyester, and catalyzed urethane are all popular finishes. I suppose shelf life issues could be a problem, as well as the hazardous nature of some of these products. I'd be happy to tell you the products I use, as well as the suppliers I use. Again, I know there may be shelf life issues with some. I don't know if liability issues could also be a problem.

Another item I don't think you currently handle is glue. I use 192 gram strength high clarity hide glue.

Coe I'm not sure what your talking about. The only thing I can think of is orphaned backs and sides. We have always posted pictures of the actual set one is buying. If a situation like this does arise just pick up the phone. We bend over backwards for our customers. :D

Yes you have, Bob, and I appreciate that very much! IMO, it is one (of many) factors that distinguishes you from other suppliers. While it's nice to be able to evaluate tonewood in person, since that's not typically realistic for me I just won't buy wood without seeing good photos. Yours are usually excellent in my experience. Thank you for always providing them. [:Y:]

I would like to find a source with a nice selection of purfling.......without needing to buy a lifetime supply. I've looked for vintage Martin purfling and couldn't find a source. I've seen some decent looking purfling on EBay but it appeared to be low quality seconds. While I like herringbone, I wish I had other options.

Sure wanted to try Hormigo but it's not been available for awhile.

Hi Bob and sons

Is there any way you could help out international purchasers? My issue is in using US Postal services, it gets handled in the UK by our Royal Mail parcel service... and as there is duty to be paid, they do not deliver, but send you a letter, usually a week or so after the goods have arrived in the UK, and you then I have to go and pay and pick up from the nearest sorting depot which can be 25 miles away. StuMac use DHL for international shipping and its great - 2-3 day max delivery straight to door - DHL then invoice me for the duty and tax a couple of days later and I just send 'em a cheque... any chance? Would make purchasing of your rather lovely items so much more tempting :)

+4 (or is it +5?) on domestic woods. Sycamore!!

+2 on nice selection of purfling. Maybe a selection of thin sheet woods to make our own purfling (not fiber).

Thx, Tony

Did anyone say domestic yet, it would be nice to get Port Orford Cedar for necks, heel and tail blocks etc.
That would make it easier to put together an all "North American" build.
The next problem I'm having is the fretboard and bridge, any suggestions?

Scott

I'd be grateful if at all possible you could move your business a little closer to the Canadian border. I fact if you're going to come all that way any how, you might just as well come right into Canada. Might I suggest the West Coast. The winters can be quite pleasant. Little of that icky snow the rest of the country seems to get. Seriously, it's a good thing you're not too close. I wouldn't want it to be too easy to fuel the addiction.

Welcome back Bob and company! I'm with Rod on the Imbuia. I'd like to try a set. I would think you could sell just about anything luthier related. Paying shipping is a PITA. I like one stop shopping.

Cheers,
Danny

I'm waiting for someone to suggest "Pallet Wood" :p (I might be only half joking) ;)

And moving to the West Coast would definitely make me happy (and broke). Perhaps just a teleportation service back and forth? :D

Frank I agree with shipping problems and we are looking into setting up a DHL account.

Considering how lazy I am, if you have an item out of stock, put that in bold letters on the index page, so I do not have to click on the index icon, only to be dissapointed when the page comes up empty.

I'm always keeping my eye out for archtop back and side sets. Especially if it isn't Maple!

I'd love slotted fretboards. Radiused would be even more attractive.

I put a little more thought into this (funny smell.. thought I left the heat blanket on again)...

As another alternative to the traditional/endangered stuff, are there any good tonewoods available from our friends in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, etc, that you could import for us?
