Hi All

I saw this auction on ebay for 200 pieces of violin purfling for $ 23.99 plus $ 18.00 shipping. That works out to about 21 cents per each 36" strip. I have been paying $ 1.45 to $2.00 per strip + postage so I thought I'd give it a try. Turns out to be very nice stuff. You might want to check out his auctions. http://stores.ebay.com/luthierwood-shop ... 4340.l2563

I don't know about his other items but I am very happy with the B/W/B purfling that I bought from him

I recently heard that a Chinese company has ripped-off the idea of Zip-flex. I guess we can expect more crap from there hitting the shores around the globe now.

I bought some of the BWB purfling strips as well. I was a bit sceptical but gave it a punt. I have to be honest, it is very good stuff and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and at that price it is fantastic value.

I suppose it's possible some of the suppliers I use buy stuff from China, but I won't be buying stuff from China to make my guitars.

I did buy some rosette from some cheap seller on ebay, but found that the rosette was very thin, in fact too thin. I don't know if its supposed to be thin but I could actually see right through them.

So you do get what you pay for sometimes.

On the other hand, I have been happy with shell and bone products I get from inlaidartist, cheap and no need to worry about lacey act.

Its not a lot of work to produce these items especially when you mass produce them with cheap labor.

You get what you pay for. I bought some bone bridge pins cheap and most of them were undersized.

I thought about it, but I can't seem to find any standard sized pieces??? No .060" or .040". All their sizes come out to awkward thicknesses (.047", .051", .071") that our cutters really aren't designed for. Unless I'm missing something?
Chris

Doesn't matter to me, my cutter adjusts to whatever I want.

I try to avoid China where I can (which isn't a lot).

Good luck them getting it into the US. On the other hand, they get to feed the market cut off to Kevin by the the CITES (edit: LACEY) act.

Bother.
