Has anyone tried this? How do you like it, and have you compared to the Gyros 83-16008 Brass Back Razor Saw?

I ordered the SM saw yesterday, then saw the Gyros saw in Woodcraft later in the day. I really wanted the Gyros saw, but having just ordered the SM saw, well I didn't want to spend the extra. Having regrets not buying it now...and I might buy it anyway, as I tend to like these mini-razor saws.

Don! My Man! Cancel the SM saw and get what you want! Tools last longer than you will! You can resharpen, which is a good idea in most cases, but I'm sure these are both in pretty good shape from the factory.

You can keep both too. I have no personal experience with either of these brands but the thin kerf saw gets used quite a bit in most shops. Quick and Clean!

I guess there's no reason not to have more than one, eh?

All this has happened because I had a small German-made razor saw of sorts that I bought from LMI or StewMac many years ago which I couldn't find. One thing's for sure.... if you want to find something, order a replacement. Yup...found the old one yesterday. But, it's dull, and I can't deem to find replacement blades, so ordering the new one was probably the right thing. Now to go order the one I saw at Woodcraft...

I have bought a few saws from www.japanwoodworker.com
They have a couple with their own name on it. Bought the small one and it is the first one I grab for unless I am cutting large stock. Lots of replacement blades also.
First saw I bought was from LMI and when the time came there was no replacement blade. Now when I buy a saw I always pick up at least 1 extra blade.

Duct tape. Then I simply jog the cnc gantry back and forth in the Y axis, slowly lowering it in the Z.

Cuts great!

In the FWIW Department:

I had the chance to try it out last night in fitting the top to the rim on my current project, a Brazilian/Adi OM. (I know, terrible, unproven combo...it will probably never work) and the saw performed admirably. My rating would be an 8 out of 10, only because as I said earlier, the handle is a bit light weight feeling, but also because for the application of trimming braces, having a handle that is angled upward would be better to give clearance to the hand over the other braces and the soundboard or back. It's great that the blade is as short as it is in both length and height....perfect for this application, but the hand needs a little more room to work with and an angled handle such as on the X-Acto saw would be perfect for this. Kudos to StewMac for a generally terrific product though. The blade is very sharp and handles cutting through bracewood pretty easily.
