Anyone use maple braces for their maple guitar backs? Any problem with that?

You could, but why would you? So heavy...

I get the weight issue but it's a maple parlor and the back braces are pretty small and I don't think it would be all that noticeable. Thanks for the input I really appreciate it. I'll see what moves me in the morning...or err well I'll decide in the morning. It's generally bran cereal that...well you know what I mean.

I figure if a parlor guitar with maple braces is to heavy for someone they should take up another hobby. It won't add that much weight.

On classicals mahogany is often used for back braces, and its the same weight range as maple.

We have a local maple here called silver maple which has abt the same density as h. mahog abt .47. Soft eastern maple is abt the same .But from what I/ve seen of euro maple e.g. norway and others, density is slightly higher. I used soft maple on a recent baritone uke back .of walnut .I just used thin 6.5mm or 1/4in back bracing.

I've used white birch(a bit lighter than most maples, but not by much) on mahogany backs(dreads) at times, when after a specific response. It works very well, the weight added is minimal, and it looks rather "normal"(IE: nobody notices unless I point them out). Don't have exact specs with me, but they would have been 1/4", or slightly less, wide; normal height.

Go for it!
