Steve, as usual a great little guitar from my favourite builder. I love the way that all of the colours blend together so well, very classy. But then we should expect no less from a Kinnaird.

Isn't that a little beauty! What's going on with the heel. Looks like you've got a chunk of Walnut, or something other than what the rest of the neck is made of, laminated in there? It's all very nicely tied together.

Cheers,
Danny

Thank you again, gents. It's nice to get some love after you've poured your heart and soul into something.

Colin, I trembled posting the pic showing the abalone rosette, and here you didn't say a word. Florence must have made this look tame? ;)

Danny, you're right. I forgot to mention that little touch--it's more of that same walnut burl. Looks a bit like brown marble don't you think? I love the stuff.

And a pic for Jaybird:

Danny,
I think Steve thought you were talking about the heel cap, but to me it seems like you meant the heel itself. It was a stacked heel. We wanted to use the curly walnut down the shaft of the neck but it wasn't quite deep enough, so we stacked some black (not Claro) walnut to get the depth. Good eagle eye among all the fireworks this guitar offers up.

Absolutely beautiful. But I wouldn't expect anything less. I agree that the color blends worked great here. [:Y:]

Steve, I made a new year resolution not to poke fun at people using abalone ( or sitka) any more. I've accepted the reality that you are a lost cause, I know it's only taken 10 years or so, but I know when I'm beaten!

And, hey, you got a 'Dang' from Don, and as you and I know, he is the final arbiter.

It's a great little guitar Steve, a true Kinnaird work of art and artisanship.

Colin

I hope that in a 100 from years from now whenever someone picks up a guitar like this and looks at it, the first thing they think about is "Wow, this is really exceptional..." as opposed to "Well, it's not a Martin (blah, blah, blah...)

Thanks for posting! [clap]

Wow, absolutely beautiful, Steve. The body shape is incredibly attractive to me and everything from the abalone rosette, to the amazingly colored redwood to the exceptionally executed back plate just demonstrates a superb sense of design and skill level. I'm sure the future owner will be incredibly happy.

That's lovely Steve. I like the choices of woods - very tasteful. That stripe in the bridge is a nice touch too.

Wow, you guys know how to make a bloke feel warm and fuzzy for sure!
Such nice things said, and two dangs.
Dang.

Danny, Ryan is correct. I realized my mistake after posting that bit about the heel cap.
We did glue a block of black walnut to the Claro neck shaft, then resawed that into two stringers.
The "solid" pieces of maple and mahogany throw the eye a bit and mask the stacked heel. But there is that interesting little curved line right there, with the slight variation in colors between the walnut. I kinda like it.

Colin, has it been 10 years? And are you really beaten is the pertinent question. When we see a stream of Sitka-topped guitars (or heck even the occasional one) come out of your shop then we'll know. :P

Steve, glad you like the stripe. Wish that piece had had a few more!

I'm really glad you guys like the color, as that's my favorite part of this instrument and the reason I posted it.
So again, many thanks to you all.

Steve

I kinda like it too. It makes it look a little more interesting. And what you said about the heel cap! That is some beautiful burl. It does look like marble.

I agree with Colin's sentiments. I deeply admire your work and sense of aesthetics.

Don, Don, Don...three dangs from you.
That's almost better than getting paid.

Thanks!
