Hey Fred...Fantastic looking guitar...Can i get you to answer a couple of questions?..I have been looking at building an eight string baritone guitar...Similar to the Eight string Taylor Baritone guitar...27" scale..I will be using a Grand Auditorium plan...Is there anything different about the bracing on the Baritone Guitar. I noticed on the Taylor the tone bars are different . One is scalloped and one just tapered...Did you move the bridge plate to allow for the scale or just make it bigger?...Thanks

I moved the bridge plate to get the bridge in the right place, the bracing is the same as I use on other guitars that size, but a little stiffer. The top is also slightly thicker than my normal small jumbos (around .005" extra). I did the 28" because we were wanting to keep the strings as small as possible and still tune to C, at present it has heavy gauge strings .059 to .014

What more to say, very nice work Fred.
And beautiful rosewood.
Critique? I know you would welcome constructive stuff.
It just struck me that, to my eye anyway, the rosette looks a little too wide, and the cutaway/neck point "jars" a bit. It looks better when it "blends" into the heel.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I do not quite get what you are talking about Colin, do you mean it should have a real wide full neck width heel as in a Gibson, if so I find them somewhat wrong looking to my eye. As to the rosette beauty is in the eye of the new owner as that was his preference.

gorgeous guitar fred. glad to see your work ethic has stayed with you! 17 guitars thats in what the last 3 years? i can remember seeing number 3 on the workbench.

its all preference but i dont like the big half rounded heel either. it may be more smooth of a transition in the higher registers for playing but like he said players preference over builders... as long as its not detrimental to the construction or strength i would hope haha

edit: forgot to ask fred did you use zpoxy on the top for a sealer as well?

First picture I found, but I just meant something like this (although I have seen narrower heels at the cap)
And, of course, beauty is in the eye of the buyer!
