So I ordered a set of practice sides from LMI to help me get the hang of the pipe bending method for my first build. I did not expect to get a matched set and a nice looking set at that. But I can't really figure out what species this is. Anyone have any ideas? Was thinking walnut but is not any walnut im familiar with.

Sorry about the flickr links. I still haven't figured out how to post pictures inline with the post here. Any help with this would be appreciated. Apparently I can't upload from my computer as I can on other forums so I put some on a flickr account. Now I can't figure out how to upload them from my flickr directly in my threads.

The Img button above the reply box doesn't work for me. But if you use the "Upload Attachment" box below the text box, that
will upload the photo into the text. You'll have to use "Preview" button below the Uplosd attachment box to see the picture as
other viewers will see it. There are limits on how big the upload can be, I couldn't fine the limit in a quick search.

The "Img" button is for links to on-line images in sites like photobucket.com etc. The upload button below is for images on your computer that you upload to be hosted by this site. The advantage of the upload is that it helps pages load faster because it only loads a thumbnail, which can be enlarged, when loading the page. It also provides for continuity for the site as the images are always available, where linked images often get corrupted or removed from posts when someone changes an album or site host or something like that.

I bought the same ones to try out my new fox style bender. I bent my first one at 0.090" just as it arrived, but it broke at the waist on my first attempt. This was my first side I've ever broke, in about 5 or 6 guitars, and most have cutaways. I decided since the grain looked a little squirrly to me that I would stop. I couldn't see the point of bending wood that I was unfamiliar with, but I would go thinner if I were to give it another shot.

I used the others for packing material, etc. I switched to EIRW and myrtle for my next bends, and I bent 3 sets of sides, including venetion cutaways and haven't looked back.
