I have to re-finish a water based finish (KTM-10 demo finish) and want to clean the surface thoroughly of all waxes etc. from some Maguiar's products. Ntw officially waxes but I think there's SOMETHING in these finishes and would like to clean the surface really well. What should/could I use to clean up a water based finish really well?

I would clean with naptha first to pull up any waxes that may be there and then with DA to get the silicones. I would clean again with DA after prep sanding for the new finish. What will you be putting over it?

Water borne finish again Brian. Probably the KTM if I have enough - Poly Whey if I don't.

Sanded through. VERY, VERY, hard surface after 10 days but had some stubborn scratches that I just couldn't get out so I went too hard in one little place - you know the rest of the story. I started too coarse, 320, and those scratches just wouldn't go away.

On a different guitar where I used the KTM again I level sanded the next day with 600 grit and it was much more reasonable to level by hand. 10 days it gets very hard to do by hand.
