I am considering putting in fingerboard purfling but I am not sure what to do to protect it from wear. The real problem is that I would like to use fiber purfling to match that on the body and peghead. Other than fingerboard oil, what can I do? Should I seal it with super glue or something else?

Sealing the fiber with super glue would probably work if the glue was thin enough to penetrate fully. I have thought of trying this myself, but I always gone the safe route and used the best match I could find in plastic. The fingerboard and the purfling need to be up to the task of holding up through the years. If you are building for resale I would go plastic. If you are building for yourself you could try it and see if it wears well.
