I am shaping and thicknessing a new neck/peghead and don't have the Grover Sta-Tites I'll be using on hand. See below.

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guit ... ?tab=Specs

Searched all over and found nothing definitive. Anyone else use these? What thickness should I shoot for with the Peg head?

Thanks

I did 16mm on my last one (with Sta-Tite tuners) and there is *juuust* enough room to not cause any problems.

Edited to fix incorrect measurement.

I managed to get mine onto a 16mm peg head, or just under 5/8". I think anywhere between 1/2" and 5/8" and you're good

You could measure the distance from the centre of the string hole to the peghead face on a guitar you like (and that has enough space for the appropriate number of winds on the E string) and then subtract that from the string post height of the Sta-Tite... Got to take the bushing into account too, of course.

Just a newbie trying to contribute, please correct me when I'm wrong.

About 12mm?

I did 14mm on my last one (with Sta-Tite tuners) and there is *juuust* enough room to not cause any problems.

Thanks for the reply. (I don't have a set on hand nor do I have a guitar with them to measure hence my question.)

Thanks John. This is actually my first solid peghead as I've been building slot heads where thickness is not as important.

My apologies, I just measured it and mine is 16mm too, not 14mm. I wouldn't go any thicker.

The bushing is about 2mm, the string post to string height is 21.21mm, so a 16mm peghead gives you 3mm for string winds and a 15mm gives you 4mm, etc.

.75" - .80" for slot head and .600"-.625" for paddleheads.

Thanks Todd

Yeah I like this for the size, it doesn't show a lot of exposed threads on the tuner posts
