I prefer sitka spruce it/s stronger./stiffer than some sp. cedar .But it (sp cedar), seems to be favourable with CL gtr builders

I've used everything from extremely lightweight Eastern white cedar to maple for back braces. It all works, just depends on what you're after or what you expect. A guitar's back is one place where you can deviate from the normal stiffness to weight stuff and get away with it.
