I had an interesting guitar come in for a bridge repair. A classical made by a Bennett Tolliver from Canton Center Conn. in 1972. It weights over 10 lbs and has massive 3/4" - 1" bracing in the upper bout and back with at least 1/4" thick sides. No lining. Upper bout bracing covered in kind of a rubberized black paint. Straight bracing in the lower bout with a transverse brace under the bridge but no bridge plate. Looks like a Cedar top which I think is solid.
Anybody know anything about this guy? All I could find was that he worked for Ovation at some time and that the inlay fellow Larry Robinson spent some time with him in the 70's.
It's quite a beast. The owner likes it and bought it from a university music professor in the 90's.
Any light any of you could shed on his instruments would be appreciated. He'd have to be an outside the box and probably delightful character to build something like this.
Thanks
Terry
