Hey Everyone,

I'm new here to the forum. I'm on the hunt for some nice Lutz spruce, and Tim Mcknight recommended that I come here to the forum and look for a lead on something from Shane at High Mountain Hardwoods. I understand that the business changed ownership, but I'm wondering if Shane might still have some tops? How I might contact him? Or if someone out there on the forum might have any other ideas.

Thanks for any help!
Ryan Gerber

Ownership is indeed changing hands, you came right at the time of transition, so it might be a bumpy start. Have a bit of patience though, the new peeps should get it going again soon.

Does anyone know of any other reputable suppliers for Lutz? I'll be sure to check with High Mountain Tonewoods, but it never hurts to have more than one source.

I believe there were only ever two. It comes from a very small region in BC. The other fella is Mario Da Costa. From what I understand he can be somewhat odd in dealing with, as his logs aren't really graded in terms most of us are used to. So you'll need to be very careful in telling him exactly what you expect to receive.

High Mountain Tonewood is the only one that I know of.

Shane from HMT posted here on 30th March to let everyone know about what is happening with the sale and new management of his business.

I tried contacting him on 3 different occasions to get some but never got a reply. The first time was when he was taking orders somewhere around Oct. I finally gave up and figured he wasn't interested in any new business or just didn't want to mess with a small order. Maybe the new owners will be more responsive to your request.

I would have liked to have gotten some but as it is, it worked out and I got a few sets of really nice 50 year old German Spruce from Hesh.

I got a few tops from High Mountain, had an issue with one and after a year of being totally blown off it was resolved. Spruce Tonewood is pretty good to deal with just get pics of what your buying.

I never had anything but good interactions with Shane. Yes, he could fall off the map once in a while, then again, I'm no volume producer. And his product was always top notch. I'm gonna miss working with him.

Lutz is such a pretty and Tonally awesome wood. Hope the new owners continue the line.

Mike
