Kevin,

I've been doing a lot of reading, and something that comes up not infrequently is a dull RK right off the bat.

Hi everybody, intersting topic. I also make lot of resawing, oftenly with rosewoods and bought recently a large quantitie (large for me) of macassar ebony, about 550Kg in five pieces. So for this ocasion I bought a resaw king by its german manufacturer.

About the cleaning of the blade, a fast, simple et very efficient way is to put it in a solution of water and caustic soda (not sur of the translation, "soude caustique" in french, NaOH) for about 10-15 minutes and after to wash it under clear water, its perfectly clean withour any effort an spending time on it.
NaOH is very corrosive (but not for metal) so be sure to wear gloves and protection.

I bought two Woodmaster CT's after my stock Rikon blade petered out in very short order. 1" wide with 1.3 TPI.

I can't tell you how much wood I've put through it...a LOT of hard stuff.

I'm still using the first blade and I can't imagine a reason to try anything else unless it were to get a narrower blade for freehand cutting....but it would be a CT if I did.

The reason is because the yield is higher with the RK blade. An extra set of BRW would have to be pretty ugly to not make it worth the extra cost of the RK blade. For lower value wood and general sawing the RK blade is not a good choice.

At least for us in Europe, resaw-king is cheaper (if you buy it directly to its german manufacturer).

Hello Caribou,

no, that is not true, you can also buy the Woodmaster CT directly here in europe, it will be cheaper than the RK.

I will clean now my RK, ship it back to Kohlbacher, they want to have a look at it and resharpend it. Then I will try again with resawing some BRW sides. In the meantime I will do some resawing on avarge woods with the good old CT...so much stuff still needs to be resawn....

the RK lasted for 60 backs sets and about 10 side sets...powerfeeder is also still a topic....found a nice one for about 1500, that is too much money, but actually i think it is easy to build one by yourself.

cheers, alex

Alex, Is it possible to surmise how this number compares to the number of sets you can saw with the CT?

Hello Trein,

difficlut, I have been resawing with the CT also alot of differnt stuff, also BRW, but never started with a fresh CT and then only doing BRW. But I would say at least 3 times as much, possibly much more. I did about 180 sets of Ziricote with a CT, and it was still going very good. Then I did about 50 sets of Eucaylptus which killed the blade....

But like Lance state already a few times: I am sure the RK can do quite better, if you have a powerfeeder and a mist system. I think my RK got dull because it got too hot, because of the wrong feedpressure and too slow feed rate.

In general the metal tips on the teeth of the CT seem to be harder, but not sharper than the RK teeth.

Would be interesting to know exactly if the teeth are made out of different metal...I think so.
