I've never listened to a podcast but I would give it a go if you did one.

What a great idea and when the word international is mentioned we'd give it a double thumbs up and win win.

Lance,

I'd listen. I used to have a 2.5 hour commute to work and this would have been perfect.

Now if you can also add a time travel feature so my old commuting self could have access that would be sweet. Although I guess I already know that didn't happen.

John

I would love the opportunity to listen to the podcast. A suggestion would be phone interviews or skype even and record so you don't have to spend on traveling. There are guys from England that could probably help in their region too.

I'd be into that for sure, I listen to podcasts often at work and have only found one about lutherie. It was older, just gave a general overview and only lasted 9 episodes I think. If the OLF did one, I'd be all over it.

I would listen as well. I would prefer something longer. Most of the podcasts I listen too are in the hour to two hour range.

What ever happened with this? I've only found the Luthierist so far on iTunes. :)

Lance,

I had to stop and think about this. I'm a big supporter. And if I say "count on me", I want to mean it. Because, I know me. I like reading. And I can't remember the last time I checked out a podcast. I watch YouTube videos. But lots of those how-to videos drive me nuts because I want to get to the main thing and not watch stuff I don't care about. Is this a way to spot light builders? Or a means to do that and help builders become better builders? It's the latter I am interested in. What would happen if you built a plan of how to build a guitar from soup to nuts. Shaping, bending, finishing, setup, and on and on. Then pick builders who can contribute? You could have a condensed version free to public, and a paid version with way more variety and detail. When people pay for something, they take it more seriously.

Ok, I'm rambling.

Mike

I think it would be very cool. I know of one podcast done through Skype. No travel expenses there.

I would listen if you had guitar players and luthiers on there together for extended range dynamics with a boxing match at the end [clap]

Can I assume that these would be posted to YouTube? That's a good revenue stream. Not sure if you have to line up sponsors or not...

Wow kinda pulled this one up from the way back machine :-)

I am a huge fan of podcasts. Matter of fact, I never listen to live radio any more on my way to and from work. Its all pod's.

Since posting this, I have looked into a lot of different aspects of bringing a pod to the OLF.
There are two major hurtles. One is my time. If you look at the original post it was in July of 2014. Since that time my oldest daughter is now 3 months from graduating high school and we have been doing the college search thing almost every day since the current school year started. Needless to say, my personal time has been cut into more and more as my children get older. I know ill blink and they will both be off and doing their own thing but right now we are in the heart of it.

Second is cost. Good pod equipment is not cheap, and doing it on what amounts to a close and play cassette is not going to work. I would do it the right way or not at all. My original concept was to visit luthiers (mostly OLF members) from around the country for a day. Record a bunch to time, and edit that into a solid, interesting 30 minute pod. You can see that my vision of this is not a super budget orientated venture.
I still think I can and will do it. But when I do, I want it to be successful so I would rather wait until I can do it right.

Thanks for asking and thanks for reminding me :-)

L
