After hearing everyone talk about the Gore/Gilet books I was beginning to feel left out. So I ordered my set a few weeks back. I own nearly every book that has come out over the past 10 years on flat-top building and a number of the key classical books as well. These books are easily at the top of my list of most valuable building resources.

I’m most of the way through reading the Build book and can’t say enough about the quality of the information found in these books. I’m fairly set in my ways after 10 plus years of building, but I picked up a number of new things I’ll be implementing into my future builds. Not only is the quality great, but the range of steel-string and classical information is the most comprehensive I’ve found in one book. I’m excited to dive more into the world of classical guitars, and feel much better equipped to do so having read this book. I’m also looking forward to reading the Design book. I’m not a math and science guy, so I know it may be hard to wrap my head around. But I’m sure a better understanding of the science behind guitar building will help take my guitars to another level.

These books are well worth the cost, and in my opinion under priced for the amount of material you get. A must have for your luthier library!

You would've found me sitting in my favorite coffee shop with a legal pad and Design this past Wednesday morning, working through, taking notes, writing myself questions. It takes me some work, but it's starting to come together and I enjoy the challenge. Have fun with it!

And I couldn't agree more about Build!

My daughter is touring right now. She was close by and Trevor was kind enough to have her over to pick up a set for me. (Grrrrrrr Should have been me. She's a fiddle player for crying out loud).

Thanks Trevor. The books arrived safely. Um, so did my mother in law who brought them back for me.

Just from the logic in the introduction I knew these were going to be (as Ed said) a game changer. Only wish I had them sooner. I'm too far along on the one I'm doing for myself and now I really feel like I'm just fumbling my way through. ( my life, seat of the pants approach)

Again, Thanks. We always have a bed.............. and an Australian mother in law in case you get home sick.

Cheers,
Danny

I am glad you found these informative for you Josh.
Best investment I have made in my shop, for sure....!
I also have a fairly large library of the "old stuff" and these are a much-needed upgrade.

I agree. They are great. I'd love to see and play one of Trevor's instruments.

I got the books for Christmas and started with Design but got a bit lost in it all so moved on to Build, hoping that after finishing that, the Design book will make more sense to me!

A great set of books for sure, I traded my building volume for the Somogi design book and wish I hadn't Erv's book is useless compared to the Gore/Gilet set.

And, how fortunate are we to have Trevor stop in from time to time to answer questions and give input. I may have a few questions about the math. Um, or maybe best to not go there. :?

Again, thanks!

For those that have purchased the set and are struggling with the formulas for calculating the top and back thickness, shoot me a PM and I will send you a copy of my Excel spreadsheet.

I have to agree with all the comments. I am working my way through the build book now. I am still a beginner, but have most of the well known books and these are clearly the best at providing details of all the procedures and jigs.
