Hi folks - As some of you know I made an unsolicited donation on behalf of myself and everyone who bought something from me to the OLF a couple of days ago and Lance was very appreciative. It also afforded us the opportunity to catch up a bit and what I learned is that the OLF could very much benefit from additional donations and/or sales of memberships to the classified section, where I sold nearly $4K of stuff in several days time.

It seems that unlike the old days when we were a bunch folks with a shared passion for guitar building, repair, etc. when Lance would on rare occasion let it be known that the bills for the server were getting pricey and we would all chip in more recently these requests have not been made.

Today's OLF has FAR more traffic than ever before. Many of us come here to learn, enjoy friendships, talk shop etc. and it's easy for us to forget that there are costs associated with brining us the OLF in living color.... (dating myself there.... :? )

So how can you help and help right now so that the OLF will be here for us all in the future? There are two ways that I can think of, actually three.

First make a donation to the OLF of any amount that you wish, that's what we just did. The money will be used to keep the server serving so that we can all benefit for the forseeable future. Donations may be made via PayPal to lance@kragenbrinkguitars.com.

Or if you are not already a member of the excellent classifieds section where I recently sold a bunch of stuff but had no takers for my kitchen sink.... :D you might wish to join the classified section of the OLF and the fee, which I forgot to determine before I wrote this can also be sent via PayPal to Lance at lance@kragenbrinkguitars.com as well.

Lastly if you have a product or service and would like to tap into the considerable buying power of the OLF membership base consider becoming a sponsor and extend your business reach greatly! Lance can fill you in on the details of sponsorship simply by emailing him at the email address listed above.

Let's keep the OLF around for years to come folks and any way that you can help would be greatly appreciated!

Becoming a member of the classifieds was one of the best decisions I have made.
Time to feed the wood addiction! Thanks Hesh, Chris Ensor, and DannyV!

The three years @ $11.88 that I payed for the Classifieds was more than recouped in just the two purchases that I made from Hesh, let alone all the other items that I've bought in that time!
I know there have been discussions about paying for the right to buy and sell before, and I'm not going there, but for myself it has been worthwhile in the knowledge that I've gained from the discussions that go on in the Classifieds, aside from the odd purchase.

Just throwing this out there, another way you can help the OLF with out it costing anything is to bookmark our Amazon link. With every purchase you make Amazon will send the OLF a small percentage. IT does not increase the price of the item.
Here is our link. You can just bookmark it for convenience. :-)

Thanks!

Lance, you need to link amazon.ca as well. I mostly buy on amazon.com, but a lot of things like Somogyi books are way less expensive on the Canadian site.

Classified is great, if you're looking to buy/sell ultra high end BRW/Koa/stuff... if you build on a budget, and have a stash of budget wood to sell, people wouldn't take it even if you gave it away.

I have to disagree, Tai. I bought a killer quilted maple set from Danny V for $30. Doesn't get much more budget than that. It's the first set shown here: viewtopic.php?f=10124&t=45443

Ok, I take that back, I mean uber high end wood sold at basement bargain price... so nobody's going to pay anything for mahogany or sapele because it's too low class.

Hi Lance,

Been lurking for a while, soaking up the collective knowledge while I gear myself up for a first build. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon in the UK and love the idea that OLF could get a cut. If I replace "amazon.com" with "amazon.co.uk" in the link, the url seems to work. Is it that simple? Do you still get your share?

Hi Pete, first thanks for trying! I am not sure if it works. I have been trying to find out how to add you guys and also Canada but I have yet to get it figured out. I guess the only way to know for sure is next time you buy something shop related, shoot me an email with the item, and I will compare it with the sales report. The sales report has no identifiable information on it, but it does show what is selling and what is no. i.e. best sellers etc.. If your item is there, then I would assume its working with the .co.uk link. It kind of makes sense that it would, the OLF ID number is buried in the link and that is really what they need.

Wow Mike! Thank you!

If you would like to, send me a picture or two of the set and I will start a new thread and stick it to the top.
Also, give me an idea of the starting bid amount.
We haven't done auctions in a long time! Maybe its time to revamp it...

Thanks again, everything helps!

This is a rare set!

Start low for the makers that can't make high bids.
It's for a great cause & everyone should have a chance to bid.

Hi Pete. It should work?

I'm from Canada and At Amazon I buy from the .ca and/or the .com site all the time. Very different available inventory in each. They use my same login credentials though. Same address/contact info. It's all shared from the same source.
I prefer .ca because I get cheaper shipping costs. however I often get better prices and a greater variety of product from .com. I'd say I use them about 50/50 and I make about 24 orders a year. Sometimes however when I view things on the .com it says this seller will not ship to your location. When that happens it's over to eBay for me.
