Hello from Australia

For the past several years I have been working on a book about the history of mandolins called The Mandolin - a history. It is just about ready for the printers and to pay for the printing I have launched a Kickstarter project. I need to sell around 500 copies to pay for the printing which is the reason for using Kickstarter. It will be published in full colour, with over 400 pages and more than 450 illustrations (mostly photos of mandolins), in an 8" x 10" softcover, perfect bound book. The pre-ordered copies will be mailed out directly from the printer (who is in Michigan) directly they roll off the press. The Kickstarter link is https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/grahamkmcdonald/the-mandolin-a-history

It is a book about the instruments themselves, and the people who have made them, rather than the music played on them. There are a couple of draft chapters and the Table of Contents available as pdf downloads from my website - http://www.mcdonaldstrings.com, or you can go directly to Kickstarter page where there are links as well. Please feel free to spread the word on other instrument forums and social media.

I did check with Lance before posting this, and I wasn't whether to put it here or in the mandolin forum section. I reckoned most of the people there also hang out on the Mandolin Cafe, and more folks look at this main forum anyway :D

It is all a bit exciting after six years work.

Thanks

Graham

Graham,
I'm sure the book will be a winner. Best of luck with it!
However, this post centers on my career as a graphic designer. I am relating to the photo of the cover model you have chosen for the book. It's a stunning photograph. She is an amazing choice and I can hardly wait to read about the instruments. Well done!

The photo is so delightful I couldn't resist it :D though a couple of people have commented that she is obviously not a mandolin player. I didn't think it really mattered.

Glad you like it

Cheers

Graham

That is a great picture. I do have to admit though that the first thing I thought of was "why is she holding the mandolin upside-down?"
