I'm starting to build an understanding of this finish. What has recently surprised me is the smell when sanding. Reminds me of real varnish (linseed oil). I never checked what was in the emulsion. I didn't notice it during spraying. Anyways, it's going well. Gonna finish sand and buff tomorrow.

I realize this is a cross linking product. But, was wondering if anyone had thoughts on surface activating solvents.

Mike

If you wait longer than 24hrs between coats, give a light sanding with 220grit. Don't know of any activating agents, Mike. I've been using Enduro-Var for kitchen cabinets for the last four years. The slight amber tint helps it replicate the look of solvent finishes. Lve it!

Thanks for the update Mike!
Sorry, haven't a clue about "surface activating solvents".
Looking forward to the finished product, and hopefully your spray/sand/buff schedule....

A surface activating agent is something that will slightly melt the finish. EM6000 is activated by DNA. Less so as time goes on. It can help to create a better bond between coats especially if done after cure time. Lacquer is sensitive to acetone - permanently. M

How long are you waiting between last coat and sand & buff? I found a week was not enough.

I'm basing my schedule on John Grevard's. But, I'm going to wait longer as I have 4 more fretboards to fret. I'll start midweek. That would be less than a week. But the spraying took place over 4 days. Shrink back in to crevices and pores will be minimal as there aren't any.
