Here's the new jig with the router installed. Gonna cut some binding channels tonight.

I have the same router in my binding jig. Your binding jig looks MUCH nicer than mine, Rod! I'll likely buy a few more of the Rigid when they go on sale for $99.

Alex that's the Canadian Luthier Supply jig. I'm pretty sure after a few different styles over the years (including my own version of the above) I'll stick with this version.

And I'm with you regarding the router, I was hoping that HD would put it on sale for March but I needed it sooner and I'm sure it's still worth the extra $50.

I've got the earlier model of this jig made by Mark Kett. At the time I bought a $90 router from Sears, similar in size and weight to that Ryobi, and it's never left the jig. Seems like overkill at first, but the jig can easily handle the weight. And even though this set up works fine, I don't think you'll regret the extra $$ for the luxury of a smooth height adjustment.

And just so you know when the time comes to replace the router bit, CMT makes a cutter this size without a bearing that needs to be cut off, and with the blades set at a shear angle - so the blades are set to also slice, and not just hammer away at the wood. Well worth the money.

I will have to look into the CMT cutters. And to clarify, the cutters I've always included with this jig do have the shear angle you describe. It may not be clear in the picture, but it is there.

Yup, I concur. That bit has a sheer angle set to it. Most good tools houses will have a 1-1/4" rabbet bit.
