Hey everybody,
I am currently working on my first electric guitar, a walnut bodied Telecaster. I have drawn out the plans from a real telecaster and I am ready for my two piece body blank. I would need two quartersawn walnut pieces 18 in long X 7 in wide X 2 in thick. Anyone have some or knows where to get it?

Try Steve Roberson at Colonial Tonewoods. He sourced lumber from a large black walnut tree felled in Virginia (I think) several years ago that has produced some nice acoustic sets. He may have some thicker stock on hand. He is a nice guy and great to work with.

Walnut is a fairly stable wood. If the wood is well dried it is less critical to have quarter sawed wood for a solid body electric.

Old World Tonewood Company might have what you need. They process black walnut.

Good wood is where you find it. Check around for the local hardwood suppliers; they may have thick stock that's well quartered. The really big ones will sometimes have a 'shorts' bin where stuff sells at a discount. One place I know will often chop up big boards that have been around for too long and shift them over to the shorts bin, just to get them out.

Note that walnut prices are pretty high right now. The Chinese have discovered it...
