Love it! [:Y:] laughing6-hehe

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I like it. Finally a Gitfiddle you can strum, pluck, bow and just plain fiddle around with. Beautiful [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:]

How was the artwork on the top done?

Arnt, the inking and inlay is exquisite! Looking forward to seeing it finished.
Would love to see some details. Will there be a set of strings under the FB?

Hans.

Hi folks, thanks! Sorry if I mislead some of you, this was just an attempt at some humor; I am making an ABG, but the "rosing" on the top, which is a type of pen and ink decoration, is being done by a Hardanger fiddle maker here in Norway. The bass is really large, 18" across the lower bout, so for fun, he stuck a Hardanger fiddle neck on it for the picture, and sent it to me. I'll post pictures of the finished instrument.

I wondered how one would play it! That is going to be a beautiful bass, Arnt. The "rosing" is gorgeous. I hope you'll show more pics as you proceed.

Well, you got me Arnt! Couldn't imagine that box stuck up under your neck though...
Just beautiful inking. Can't wait to see it up close...
