Hello, where can I get 5deg unslotted ebony pins without having to pay $20+ for them? Anywhere?

3 degree unslotted pins in any almost wood required here.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Allied Lutherie recently acquired the machinery from Gurian to make bridge pins. I’m hoping they will have it operational soon. I plan to order a large number of pins as I did years ago from Gurian. If you can wait, and if you need a quantity, Allied might be your source.

Before I met Michale Gurian at a show, I was making my own unslotted pins. The way to make them is to turn a whole bunch to a model doing as good a job as you can. Then sort them into piles of 6 such that all in each pile are similar. Gurian said his machine pops one out every 7 seconds.
