I’m about to attach my neck to my body using a butt joint with hanger bolts. For those hanger bolt users out there, do you use anything type of glue to “Lock” them into the neck like CA or Epoxy?

Thanks,

John

I don't think anything is necessary but I put a little hot hide glue on them, since my glue pot is always near by.

I don't use any glue on hanger bolts. A 1/2" maple dowel installed through the heel providing cross grain for the theads to grab onto is more than sufficient.

This is a great idea. I've had them pull out of mahogany end grain before. I've got one neck that I have been looking for a fix. This is it!

Thanks.

Mike

I use a maple dowel, and always have. The glue isn't to keep the bolt from pulling out, it's to keep it from unscrewing when you unscrew the nut. I doubt it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt anything.

I agree, the dowel should be all you need. But. . . I usually put in thin CA, because, well why not?

That is what I was thinking. I put in a maple dowel so structurally I think I'll be fine. But once the fret board is glued down, I'd rather not accidently unscrew the bolt from the neck.

I have a bit of time before I commit myself so I’ll weigh out the options and try not to over think it.

Mine are all neck resets, not new builds. I wick water thin CA in after they're installed.
